Best TV Shows of 2011

The Best TV Shows of the Year

For television fans who enjoy a wide variety of shows, there are many to choose from each year. But a few favorites rise above the rest, and the Best TV Shows of the Year are among them. In this article, we’ll explore some of the best and most intriguing shows of 2011.

Ms. Marvel

Ms Marvel is an American television series based on a comic book character of the same name. It’s one of the most successful superhero TV shows to date and is now available on Disney+.

The show follows Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teen who discovers that she is a superhero. Her adventures start when she gets a chance to shape-shift her powers. But the story is more than just a comic book hero story.

In addition to being a superhero TV show, the series has a wholesome take on family and community. There’s plenty of comedy and drama to go around. And it all ties into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Overall, the show is a joy to watch. While it can’t live up to its predecessors, it still offers a great deal of fun. Despite its flaws, it is one of the most unique shows to come out of the MCU.

What makes it stand out is its visuals. This show has some pretty awesome colors and visual effects. Even the first few episodes have creative touches.

Having an endearing superhero and a well-rounded cast makes it a winner in my book. However, the lack of a real villain and an interesting storyline leaves a little to be desired. A few weaker episodes also fall flat.

The show isn’t rushed to meet Marvel’s rigid scheduling demands, and it doesn’t have wonky greenscreen shots. This lets it move through the series with the kind of momentum you’d expect from a well-made superhero series.

Station Eleven

Whether or not you’re a fan of post-apocalyptic stories, Station Eleven is a series worth checking out. It’s a surreal show full of ominous, terrifying imagery. But it also has a genuinely uplifting message about the importance of community.

The series centers on Jeevan Chaudhary, a paramedic in training. He meets a young girl, Kirsten, who’s been reading her parents’ copy of the Station Eleven comic book. She begins to form a bond with him. However, the two are separated for the first couple of episodes.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Station Eleven is its nonlinear storytelling. The episodes jump around in time to explore how the world fares several years after a tragic event.

Another aspect that stands out is its use of a novel-within-a-novel. For instance, the characters’ apocalypse-inspired comic book becomes a comforting narrative.

Other standout features include its stunning cinematography, its heartfelt performances, and its captivating score. All of these are hallmarks of Station Eleven, which reaches beyond the obvious to highlight the complexities of human connection and grief.

In a world where technology fails and people turn to crime and scavenging, Station Eleven argues that we should be resilient and come together in times of need.

Station Eleven is a literary science fiction masterpiece, and it won the prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Award. With its breathtaking photography and cinematography, its memorable performances, and its esoteric themes, the series is more than just a great television show.

The Wire

The Wire is a five-season drama set in Baltimore. It follows the lives of several characters, most of them law enforcement officers. They investigate the crimes of the city’s drug trade and its corrupt police department. In addition to being prescient, The Wire also shed light on the war on drugs.

During its first season, The Wire focused on crime related to the drug trade. This included the wrongful murder of a police officer, Sean Suiter. Other episodes dealt with the drug war and the dysfunction of the Baltimore City Hall.

The cast of The Wire was diverse and reflected the demographics of the city. Many of the actors had later roles in other television shows.

While it was initially thought of as a cops versus crooks story, The Wire delved deeper into the societal crisis surrounding the drug war. It was one of the best television shows of the year, according to Entertainment Weekly.

In the first season, the main character, Lieutenant Cedric Daniels, had personal and professional struggles. He was a good lead detective, but had trouble balancing his career aspirations.

His colleagues were jealous of him. Also, he was worried about his domestic partner and the dangers posed by his drug addiction.

The reformed killer Cutty was played by Cha Coleman. Wee-Bey Brice was loyal to Avon Barksdale, the drug lord. Bodie and Poot were both intelligent, naive youth who were trapped in the drug trade.

Somebody Somewhere

Somebody Somewhere is a comedy drama television series. It is set in a small Kansas town and centered on a cynical, middle-aged woman named Sam. The show has an eagle eye for detail, and a sly sense of humor that is not over-the-top or twee.

The first episode of the series premiered in January of 2022 on HBO. A second season was later announced. All seven episodes of the series are available to stream on HBO Max.

Bridget Everett, a stand-up comedian, plays Sam, the eponymous protagonist of the show. As Sam, she’s struggling to fit in to her family’s traditional, small-town Kansas way of life. She’s also dealing with the loss of her lesbian sister.

Sam’s friend Joel has an uplifting personality and is a great source of motivation. He shares Sam’s desire to get out of the dead-end town. Despite the fact that Joel is a gay man, he’s not central to the storyline.

Joel is only willing to be around people he trusts. He also has a gift for helping others. He’s also the only character in the show who seems religious. However, his romance with Michael is off-screen.

Although the show isn’t a slam-dunk, Somebody Somewhere is a solid entry in the half-hour comedy genre. Fans of Insecure, Girls, or Master of None will find a lot to like in this show.

Bridget Everett’s performance as Sam is a perfect match for her character. Her character is relatable and doesn’t try to impress viewers.

The Staircase

It’s no secret that The Staircase is one of the most influential true crime films of the 21st century. It was released over fourteen years ago, and has been re-released several times over the years. Now, Netflix has decided to make the series available to the public again.

Described as a “true crime drama,” the series follows the story of Michael Peterson, who was accused of killing his wife Kathleen. He was convicted of the crime, but has maintained his innocence. His family is now divided.

Despite its obvious similarities to other true-crime stories, the drama is not a clone. Instead, it presents a more complex and thorough portrayal of the events that led up to the tragedy.

There are many intriguing questions at the heart of the story. Among them, is whether Michael killed Kathleen or was the victim of a murder? This is a subject that has spawned plenty of documentaries, podcasts, and news stories.

In addition to the documentary content, The Staircase also features an excellent cast. Colin Firth, Dan DeHaan, Parker Posey, Juliette Binoche, and Patrick Schwarzenegger all star. They all play members of the Peterson family. One of the most interesting aspects of the show is the rifts between the extended family.

Another fascinating aspect is the relationship between Michael and his wife Lori. When Kathleen died, Michael claimed that she fell down the stairs. But evidence, including a pair of lacerations on her scalp, points to a different conclusion.

Borgen

Borgen was Denmark’s first attempt at political drama. It was a hit across Europe. One of the show’s most fervent fans was Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland.

Borgen was produced by DR, Denmark’s public broadcasting organization. The show premiered in 2010. This is the fourth season, and it will be available on Netflix in 2022.

Borgen is about two women constantly at odds with each other. One is a centrist politician who becomes the country’s first female prime minister. Her opposing party’s prime minister is a woman a decade younger. They both have powerful factions that need to be manipulated.

Often, the personal relations between politicians are shallow. That’s especially true in Danish politics, where a coalition government of two or more parties is the norm.

There is also a lot of angst and humor. The political realm is a treacherous Rube Goldberg contraption. A politician has to be committed and dedicated. In addition, the work-life balance is a tricky proposition.

Throughout the series, we learn a lot about women’s lives. We learn about their struggles and the importance of gender equality. But we also learn that not everything is as it seems.

Borgen has been called a feminist masterpiece. That’s because it deals with a lot of issues that affect women, such as abortion rights.

Those are just a few reasons why it’s one of the best television shows of the year. And it’s only getting better.
